How will I be able to endure temperatures between -200 and -320 degrees Fahrenheit?
You will be pleasantly surprised at just how tolerable it is, many actually feel very comfortable. This is because it is only hyper cooled air (your skin does not get wet) that cools the surface of the skin but without ever freezing any skin tissue. Your blood will travel inwards keeping your core warm and before going in you will be given gloves and cotton socks to go along with your undergarments to protect extremities from the cold. Your head is elevated so that your face is not exposed to the cold air.
Is Cryotherapy new?
No, cryotherapy originated in Japan in the 1970's and then spread to Europe where it was further studied and refined over the course of 30 plus years. Cryotherapy just recently made it's way into the United States and has gained immediate popularity among doctors, physical therapists and the majority of professional athletes.
Is it safe?
Yes! In over 30 years of testing and use no severe adverse reactions have ever been recorded. In Europe there have been numerous studies conducted and published in medical journals about the positive effects of whole body cryotherapy. In addition, many European countries include cryotherapy treatment in their medical insurance policies. It is quickly gaining momentum in the United States as well.
Is nitrogen dangerous to humans?
Not at all. Did you know that the air we breathe in is made up of 16% oxygen, 1% hydrogen, 78% nitrogen and 5% of other components?! When using cryotherapy your head is elevated above the chamber with ventilation providing you with clean oxygen that is being monitored by an oxygen sensor at all times.
Do I need to shower before or after cryotherapy?
No, cryotherapy is a completely dry process that does not get the skin wet. The treatment only lasts up to three minutes and you can easily be in and out in under 10 minutes!
How many times per day can I get cryotherapy?
We recommend no more than twice a day and that is really only necessary for those in heavy training. For others, consistently coming in two to three times a week is sufficient.
Is cryotherapy the equivalent of taking an ice bath?
Not even close. Cryotherapy is far superior to taking an ice bath in every regard. Ice baths cannot duplicate the same temperatures or results of cryotherapy. Ice baths are a wet process of 12-15 excruciating minutes, can damage the skin and has many documented cases of severe adverse effects, versus cryotherapy; a dry process of 2-3 easy minutes, that has numerous and substantial benefits with no severe adverse effects ever recorded in over 30 years of use.
How can I get all of the benefits associated with cryotherapy in just 3 minutes?
The three minutes in treatment is just when the benefits begin but they continue for hours after you leave as your body continues to heal. The three minutes in the cryotherapy triggers and accelerates the healing process unlike anything else in existence.
How will I feel afterwards?
You will feel energized from the increase in oxygen and nutrients in your blood. Endorphins, the body's natural "feel good" substance is released improving your mood and relaxing you as well.
Can I eat before my cryo-session?
Yes. Some people actually prefer to eat a few hours before their session as they notice they can tolerate the cold even more easily!
Can I catch a cold from doing a cryotherapy session?
No, it actually strengthens your immune system! In response to the cold temperatures from cryotherapy, your body raises its internal body temperature strengthening your immune system while also decreasing both the severity and frequency of future colds.
I am claustrophobic, will I feel comfortable while I am in session?
Yes. The cabin is adjusted to your height so that your head is above and outside the cabin at all times and the door is never locked so that you can step out at any time.
Who should not use cryotherapy?
The following conditions are contraindications to whole body cryotherapy : pregnancy, severe Hyperextension (BP> 180/100), cardiac pacemaker, acute kidney disease, urinary tract disease, cold allergy (those allergic to the cold), infection, tumor disease, Raynaud's Syndrome, uncontrolled seizures, acute or recent cerebrovascular accident, peripheral arterial occlusive disease, venous thrombosis, symptomatic lung disorders, acute or recent myocardial infarction, unstable angina pectoris, arrhythmia and symptomatic cardiovascular disease.
Is there a weight limit?
We can accommodate clients up to 350 pounds. People trying to accelerate weight-loss benefit substantially from the increase in their metabolism.
Is there an age limit?
Those under 18 years of age require parental consent to treatment needed. While cryotherapy produces completely natural effects, ours are designed specifically for an adult-sized body so most children are simply too small.
